Securing your images

With Pixaria Gallery, there are a number of simple steps you can take to prevent people stealing your images.

Prevent Right-click and Drag and Drop

By default, most web browsers allow users to use the right-click mouse button to show a contextual menu that allows saving of images from web pages. In some browsers it is also possible to drag and drop images from a web page onto the desktop. Both of these methods can be used by unscrupulous individuals to steal image content from Pixaria Gallery but fortunately, it's fairly simple to prevent this happening.

Right click and drag and drop can both be disabled for images in the admin area of Pixaria Gallery using options in the Appearance Settings control panel. To enable this feature, navigate to the admin area of your site and then to The 'Settings' navigation option, the Appearance Settings control panel and then to the 'Security and Watermarking' tab.

Note that the method used to disable right-click and drag and drop uses JavaScript and can be circumvented by an end user by disabling JavaScript support in the browser.

Enable Adobe Flash Image Output

If you're not happy with simply disabling right-click and drag and drop, you may wish to consider using Adobe Flash for web resolution image output. Adobe Flash output support can be turned on in the Appearance Settings control panel and when enabled, all web resolution images in the website front end will be presented to the end user as a static Flash movie. By the nature of how Flash works, right-click to save and drag and drop do not work and so copying and saving images is much more difficult.

Watermark Your Images

Another useful technique for deterring theft of images is to use watermarks on your site. Pixaria supports automatic watermarking of images and more details about how to use this feature can be found here.
