Pixaria has full support for Unicode and the UTF-8 text encodings so using accented or non-Latin characters should not be a problem for most users provided the MySQL database server software installed by your hosting company is version 4.0 or above.
In versions of MySQL prior to 4.0, there was no built in support for Unicode which means that accented characters stored within the database may not always be reproduced correctly when retrieved. This issue extends to searching which means that if you have accented characters in keywords in the database you may not be able to find images linked to those keywords.
The only solution to this issue is to upgrade to MySQL 4.0 or above but preferably MySQL 4.0.1 which also includes the ability to run Boolean searches.
In most cases, Pixaria is able to read accented characters from IPTC and XMP metadata provided it is encoded in UTF-8. If a non UTF-8 encoding is used in images you're trying to import, for example, Hebrew or Arabic, it may be necessary to set your preferred text-encoding in the admin area.
This setting can be defined from the 'Personal Preferences' link in top right of the admin toolbar.
