I'm a little bit late off the mark with this one but for anyone who didn't know, the hosted stock photography solution Digital Railroad announced its immediate closure this month:
Digital Railroad, a stock photography site that let professional photographers manage their own inventory and sales, had said it was shedding costs in mid-October, but posted a note on 28-October-2008 that the plug would be pulled within 24 hours.
Without wanting to use this as an excuse to plug self hosted alternatives like Pixaria, there is a lesson here which is that whenever you entrust your data to a third party, you MUST remember to back everything up regularly!
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itAs we head on towards the end of the year, my focus for development on Pixaria is now beginning to shift from version 2.5 to version 3.0 which I'm hoping to release sometime during August 2009.
This might sound like a long way off but there is a lot of work to do and the list of feature requests is currently over 100 points long all of which will take some time to go through. At present, I'm working on the admin side of the script improving the user interface for frequently used tasks like changing settings and importing images.
I'll be posting occasional updates and screenshots as I go but as with Pixaria 2.0, I won't be publishing a list of all the new features until the software is released.
During development of version 3.0, I will also continue to update the version 2.5 series with minor feature additions and bug fixes. Keep an eye on the blog for more details...
