Another day, another announcement, this time to introduce Divestock a new project of mine started in response to requests to create somewhere that users of Pixaria Gallery could show off their websites to other users.
By the end of 2006, I'd begun getting a lot of requests to put up a page featuring users websites but instead, having already chosen to go down the route of having selected 'Pro' case studies, the idea of a more general page evolved in my head into something a bit more ambitious. After toying with a lot of different ideas and taking advice from users, friends and colleagues, I settled on a concept for a website which could be integrated into Pixaria itself to make something even better.
Now, a year on and with Pixaria 2.0 out in the wild, I've finally got to the stage where Divestock is able to begin accepting submissions for websites to be included in it's database. Unlike the excellent Find and Click that I mentioned the other day, Divestock will be something a bit different. I don't want to reveal too much right now but suffice to say that if you're using Pixaria 2.0 and you sign up to Divestock, you will soon be able to get your work in front of many more people than you might be able to through your own website alone.
Membership of Divestock is completely free so if you're intrigued, why not take a look now and get your photography business listed.
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itHot on the heels of some useful suggestions for third party tools comes another recommendation, this time a new white pages service to promote your website and help you reach more potential clients.
Find and Click is a specialist new listings and white pages service aimed at the creative media industry. For only GBP 12.99 a year you can post details of your photography business on their website in a searchable and easy to browse format.
For visitors to Find & Click, the site provides several ways to reach your business. Visitors have the option to either browse listings by category, search the entire database, or in a clever twist, to place a 'Project Request' for relevant businesses. This interesting feature allows users to post details of requirements they have for upcoming projects and have this information sent to all the relevant companies on the site.
All in all, well worth a look and of course, you can find Pixaria on there too!
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itMy new project - Divestock - is nearing a pubic launch and if you've not yet signed up for news on the service, you can still pre-register your interest on the Divestock website.
The new website will provide an innovative platform for photographers and picture libraries to promote their work and will begin accepting free registrations later this month.

Now that version 2.0 is out in the wild, I thought it would be a good idea to highlight three very cool third party tools that can help you get more out of Pixaria.
The first is a set of nifty Photoshop actions that can quickly and easily generate all the thumbnails and comping images for Pixaria from a set of full size images. The scripts, written by Phrixus, a member of the Pixaria forums, make it easy to process images for quick upload and are particularly useful if you find resizing images directly on your web server too slow.
Next up is a great tool for the Mac users out there... If you use Apple's Aperture, then you should definitely check out the Aperture FTP Pro export plug-in. Seamlessly integrated into Aperture, this plug-in will allow you to export any project or folder of images from your Aperture library direct to your Pixaria installation's incoming directory. It features the ability to save your server settings and offers plenty of options to fit in with your preferred workflow.
Finally, a fun tool which can help you if you're customising your website's look and feel. Ajaxload.info is a quick an easy way to generate customised loading animation images like the ones used in Pixaria. The site has a large selection of design templates and you can customise the colour scheme of the loading animation to match the design of your site.
If you have a recommendation for a bit of software or a tool to get more out of Pixaria, do let me know.
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itI'm pleased to announce that Pixaria Gallery 2.0.1 is now available for all registered users of Pixaria 2.0. This update has a load of bug fixes and enhancements to the initial 2.0 release but more importantly adds support for the first new payment method in Pixaria since it was released in January 2006.
Version 2.0.1 introduces support for accepting credit card payments using 2Checkout. For a one off set up fee of $49, you can now sell your images and products through the 2Checkout payment processing system and benefit from instant notification on completion of a successful purchase. The documentation has been updated with details of how to enable 2Checkout support so you can dive in right away.
Pixaria 2.0.1 also introduces simpler database upgrades. Please see the special upgrade instructions for details of how to upgrade between versions of Pixaria 2.
If you're a registered user of version 2.0, you can request the new version by e-mailing upgrade@pixaria.com quoting your name and payment details. Please direct any other enquiries to info@pixaria.com.
